A Realm of Return:
Why I Created the Faery Court Ball

Founder Suzanne Stafford
I didn’t create the Faery Court Ball simply because I love costumes—though I absolutely do. I created it because I could feel wonder slipping away from the world. I create experiences—not just to entertain, but to connect: people to their inner selves, to each other, and to causes that matter. I know how fast people forget their own sparkle, how quickly the grind dulls the soul. And so, I build spaces where they can remember themselves. I curate not just looks, but moments of return—to joy, to play, to hope, to each other.
As a culture, we’re overwhelmed and undernourished. We’re taught to be efficient but not enchanted, productive but not present. We treat fantasy like a frivolous escape instead of what it truly is: a remembering. A remembering of joy, of sovereignty, of beauty not just admired—but inhabited.
The Faery Court Ball began as a spark: What if there were a place for grownups to dress like the royalty and magical beings of myth? A place where we stepped out of the pages of our favorite books, walked through the movie screen, or out of our own imagination and dreams. What if there were space for velvet and candlelight, crowns and kindness, magical beings, mystery and meaning? What if the dreamworld wasn’t a place we visited once a year, but something we carried home with us?
There was not a fantasy ball near me, so I built one right here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Year by year. Dress by dress. Guest by guest. I invite transformation. Through gowns and glitter, velvet and vision, I create thresholds—portals to selfhood, to celebration, to connection. I help people remember who they are beneath the roles, the routines, the rubble.
The Faery Ball is now a living portal—an immersive celebration of fae court elegance, folklore, storytelling, and the transformative magic of costume. Attendees come in handmade wings and heirloom gowns, horned circlets and upcycled armor. They don’t just come to see the magic. They come to become it.
But here’s what matters most: it’s not only for the outwardly bold or theatrically inclined. It’s for the shy soul who’s never worn something they truly loved. It’s for the woman rediscovering her beauty after decades of caretaking. It’s for the father dancing with his flower-crowned daughter. It’s for anyone who’s ever longed to be fully seen—and maybe, for the first time, celebrated.
This is my kind of activism.
Joy is resistance.
Elegance is empowerment.
Fantasy is freedom.
And the Faery Court Ball isn't just beautiful for beauty's sake—it’s rooted in responsibility. Our gowns are often upcycled or consigned. Our mission includes community causes, environmental awareness, and creating a culture of care—not just for one magical night, but for the everyday lives we return to.
To those who think it’s “just a ball”—you’re not wrong. It’s also a sanctuary. A spell. A glimpse of what life could be if we dressed ourselves in purpose, surrounded ourselves with art, and allowed wonder back into our rituals.
I created the Faery Court Ball so we wouldn’t forget who we really are beneath the errands and expectations. So we could remember how it feels to be luminous, worthy, connected, alive. Guests bring that spark of magic back into their everyday lives.
And that—beneath every hemline and crown—is what I’m really stitching together.
Will you join me to create the magic?

The Faery Ball was an absolutely magical experience for me! It has been one of the few events that I’ve attended since moving to the coast where I felt entirely free to be myself and interact with others who had similar interests! Everyone I met was so sweet and open to talking. The costumes were phenomenal and the vendors who came out had some of the most gorgeous items! I could rave for hours about the amount of fun I had last year and with the location change this year I can only imagine that it will be even more spectacular! I love that the Faery Court supports the local non profits.

The Faery Ball, for my family, is more than just a dress-up-themed ball. My oldest child has been volunteering with Suzanne, the creator since she was 15. Fast forward five years and at 20 is now in college for Coding and Programming and the Faery Court Princess and Volunteer Coordinator.
I brought my then 14-year-old son into the Faery Court family two years ago. He appeared as Tim the Enchanter from The Holy Grail at the 3rd Ball. His very first assignment was to be the volunteer assigned to the entertainment. He was just as popular as the people hired to entertain the guests. He has Aspergers and ADHD, so understanding social cues among his peers is difficult for him. At the Faery Ball, he discovered that grown-ups are much more forgiving than his peers and grown-ups understand his references to pop culture and movie quotes. He looks forward to the annual Faery Ball.

This was fun! Lots of great people run the thing and show up to it!
